What is VoIP?

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a method of delivering phone service over a broadband internet connection. VoIP is an alternative to the traditional phone delivery method for placing and receiving calls. Calls can be made to and received by anyone with a working telephone number, no matter how the service is received.

How does VoIP work?

When a call is placed the phone signal transfers through the wiring and at the modem it converts to a digital signal that sends the data through the internet. Once it is received at the end location it is either converted to an analog signal or remains as a digital signal, depending on the type of service the other party subscribes to.

What equipment is needed?

The modem provided through Easton Velocity has ports on the back allowing for either a phone or house wiring to work with the VoIP service. If utilizing pre-existing house wiring, a phone line would need to be connected from the phone port on the modem to the outlet for the house phone wiring. If using a single phone base, a phone line would need to be plugged in from the phone port on the modem to the phone base.

What is Nomorobo?

Nomorobo is a service, free for landline phones, that aid in blocking robo-calls. The system scans through a list of known problem phone numbers after the first ring of a call. It still allows legitimate numbers to ring through.
