IP Address
A unique string of characters that identifies each computer using the Internet Protocol to communicate over a network.
LAN (Local Area Network)
A network that links together computers and peripheral equipment within a limited area, such as a building or a group of buildings.
POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service)
A retronym for voice-grade telephone service employing analog signal transmission over copper loops.
Robo-call
A phone call that uses a computerized auto-dialer to deliver a pre-recorded message, as if from a robot. Robo-calls are often associated with political and telemarketing phone campaigns but can also be used for public-service or emergency announcements.
Voicemail
A system that allows users and subscribers to exchange personal voice messages.
VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol)
The method of the delivery of phone service over the internet.
